Laptops – A Gateway To The Future
The personal computer has evolved to the point that if you are not a full time user, you are likely way behind in the technology industry. The percentage of people that do not play in this arena is very low and with cause. Almost everything that you need to do, whether it be for work or pleasure, people usually need to be using a computer. The growth of laptops has taken these needs to a new level and they continue to impress with multiple features and applications.
The first laptop was invented around 1979. There seems to be some question as to the exact time line and the actual company that was first, but the early laptops were cumbersome, weighing over 20 pounds, limited in their productivity and came with a 5 inch screen, so looking at them was not the most enjoyable experience.
In the last 30 years, the laptop computer has become an integral part of most everyone’s daily lives and the features that are now included make them as fast and functional as any desktop computer. With expanded features, high quality video cards and wireless capabilities, the laptop computer is essentially a portable office for workers and an expanded school room for students. And with a docking accessory, your laptop can become part of your home computer and use any expanded features that your hard drive offers.
The advent of wireless technology helped take this segment of the industry to new heights. Now, almost everywhere, one can access the Internet, check emails, do work, tie into office files and essentially allows you to work wherever you are. The next time you are having a coffee, check to see how many people are working on their computers, the numbers will astound you.
Since around the year 2000, even cell phone technology has expanded and now many phones can function as a computer and many people can do almost as much work on their phone as they could on their personal computer. The new technology that cell phones incorporate has allowed consumers to have the internet at their fingertips. The ability to check email and do research from this small instrument, just shows how quickly technology makes our lives easier.
What will the next generation of these computers include? Well, it is almost too difficult to imagine. With faster speed and more advanced graphics, we have seen laptops with 20 inch screens, yet still be easy to carry and light enough for almost anyone to use, functionally. As we move into newer technological advances, the opportunities are endless and ultimately, only our imaginations will limit the features.
How far can it go? Well, industry experts are constantly expanding the answer to that question. We have seen the quality improve, yet the prices go down. We have seen screen size increase, and the quality of the picture increase as well. We have watched as each new feature positively impacts how we use our laptops. It appears that the only limits will be our own. Otherwise, we may finally see a laptop that can not only assist with your daily tasks, perhaps one day, we will see one that can actually do the work for you, while you hang out with your friends and family. Well, maybe.
