Ascertaining Whether Wood Burning Stoves Are Right For You

Posted on January 21 2010 by Jake Zertosky

Many arguments have been had regarding the pros and cons of wood burning stoves. Recent concerns have been the amount of carbons emitted into the air. However, when one thinks of all the forest fires, fire places, brush clearing, and etc. It would seem to be a big to-do about nothing.

Older people will relate the pleasure of lying on a rug in front of a fire and enjoying the warmth it gave off. Eating an apple or reading a book with the flames crackling in the background brings back fond memories. The comfort of such a cozy setting is not soon forgotten. It is unfortunate that those have to be memories of times past and not the present.

Stoves that burn wood have been in use for years, starting in a primitive form with the first settlers to the country. Although there have been various designs, they really have not changed very much over the years. For many years they were the only heat in a home and used for cooking as well. The smells of homemade bread being baked in a wood stove is something not soon forgotten.

Stoves have changed over the years in design and usage. Gone are the days when bathwater was heated on top of the stove for the Saturday Night bath. Using the stoves to heat flat irons to iron clothes has also gone with the advance of civilization. Some changes have improved our way of living but, by doing so, a number of personal pleasures have been lost.

In thinking about stoves and wood one thinks of the Western movies where the Chuck Wagon Cook prepared meals for the cowboys. Although there was an open fire, most of the meals had a metal shaped object that fit over the flames and was used to cook everything from biscuits to steak. This was a very primitive type of stove and worked very well. A few Chuck Wagons were fortunate enough to have a stove in the wagon itself.

With the advancement of modern times many people now have stoves with an energy source other than wood. It is sad that many of today’s children cannot enjoy the bright color of the flames and feel its delightful warmth. They look in wonder at their grandparents who speak of their experience with wood stove and find it hard to believe that those things really happened.

If one reviews the history of the wood stove they will see how the design has changed over the years. Stove companies have designers constantly working on improving their products. The public, using these stoves, have been fortunate enough to enjoy the results of this hard labor and creativity.

Although many types of heat producing units are on the market, nothing has ever been found to compare with wood burning stoves. The flames are almost hypnotizing as one sits in their chair enjoying a peaceful evening. The crackle of the wood, as the flames attack it, is music to one’s ears in the quiet of a snowy day, bringing with it the sense of hearing notes that are soothing and peaceful.

Save money and energy when you install a wood burning stove today! You will find many wood burning stoves to choose from that are affordable and easy to start using now!
