Training And Calming The Hyperactive Dog
The hyperactive dog can turn your house into a carnival. People buy dogs for all kinds of reasons. Some people want a dog to keep themselves or their children company, or simply to protect themselves. When people get a dog that turns out to be too hyperactive it can actually make an owner wanting to get rid of his dog.
This can be changed with time and dedication. You will not get results immediately but with in a week or two your dog will start showing improvements. Once you have been at it for a few weeks your dog will actually be the very one you want to play with.
One of the first things to do is teach your pet that you are the boss. Let him know that you make the decision when to play. You will decide how long you both will play. Hide your dogs toys somewhere your pet can not see them. Next buy a timer or buzzer that sounds differently from anything else in the house.
Your dog will have learn to recognize the sound of the timer. When you are ready to begin playing with your dog, set the timer for the amount of time you want to play. Retrieve your dog’s toys and let the play begin. When the timer buzzes stop playing. Take the toys back to the hiding spot. You may want to leave a chew bone for your dog.
After a while your dog will learn that the sound of the buzzer means playtime is over. This will help your dog learn not to keep on trying after playtime is over. Another very important thing to do with the hyperactive dog, is exercise. If your dog does not get enough exercise he will have too much energy.
Taking your pet for a walk, going to a park for dogs, or even walking him in the back yard can be a good idea. You can try throwing a ball to help him run off some energy. You may have a pet that does not chase balls. Than simply walk with your dog for a little while.
Anything that you can do to help your dog burn energy is good. The best thing for dogs is putting them on a schedule. Put your dog on a schedule for walks, playtime, feeding time, and whatever else your dog does. Dogs feel more comfortable when they know what to expect.
